There are so many talented bands and artists, and these are just the ones coming from Split. In this article we have singled out top 5 local artists, you should take a listen to these while enjoying the sun and coffee by the sea.
1. Oliver Dragojević
The great musician of Split and regional scene, Oliver Dragojević had his first
encounter with music at the age of five, when he received an accordion as a gift from
his father, with which he entertained children in his street. One of his first singles is
the song Prva ljubav. He was experiencing great fame with the famous song Cesarica,
which he wrote with Grašo in 20 minutes. Some of our favorite songs are
Moje prvo pijanstvo, Skalinada, Galeb, Nocturno and others.
2. Dino Dvornik
One of the greatest representatives of the art of music, Dino Dvornik is considered by
experts to be one of the most talented musicians in our area. If you’re the type for fun
funky eighties music, with Dino you won’t miss it. The Croatian king of funk became
famous with the hits Zašto praviš slona od mene, Tebi pripadam, Ti si mi u mislima,
and many others. Dino was also son of the official actor of Naše malo misto TV show,
Boris Dvornik. He received the prestigious Croatian Porin Award four times, and eight
more after his death.
3. Daleka Obala
Rock band Daleka Obala was founded in 1985 with the lead vocalist Marijan Ban. It
took them several years to start performing, and they performed for the first time in
three years at the Zlatna vrata cinema in 1988. Apart from being known for their mega
hits such as Roza, Noć je prekrasna, Daleka Obala, Tonka, the band became even
more famous based on patriotic songs - Mojoj lijepoj, and Morska vila. Nowadays the
song Marica became popular again thanks to Šime Vrsaljko and Dejan Lovren after
winning second place at the World Championships. Today the band has changed lead
vocals and continue to perform actively in our area.
4. Severina
Severina is the winner of the Golden Bird Award for the most sought-after performer
of the decade in Croatia. She started her career in the ‘90s by performing at the Split
Festival with the song Vodi me na ples. Her most famous song is Uno Momento, with
over 122 million views on YouTube.
5. Doris Dragović
Doris inherited love for music in the early ’80s when she became a member of the
band More. In 1986 she began her solo career and at the same time represented
Yugoslavia at Eurovision, and later Croatia with the song Marija Magdalena. Her most
famous and most performed song today is Željo moja, Malo mi za sriću triba, Marija
Magdalena and many others.
